Lasercut Works

Hermès // Window display
Project Scope: Design Consultation, Installation, Laser Cutting, Prototyping

Creating an impactful and engaging window display in Hermés flagship Bond Street store – a brand with a legacy of pushing boundaries and leading luxury fashion trends worldwide.

Simon Costin – an internationally respected art director and set designer, renowned for the conceptually ambitious nature of his editorial and catwalk designs, approached Lasercut with his vision of an oversized street map that bent and manipulated itself around other props within the windows. We advised on the appropriate material to be used and provided several options of engraving detail to work within a set budget. Tests were conducted to calculate the minimum detail required to achieve the desired look whilst still managing budgets.

The large-scale artwork consists of layers of plywood panels to create cutout cross sections of London that could be molded into three-dimensional sculptures within the window display. The maps are engraved with the original typography and details of a vintage London street map. All work including the animal figures where laser-cut and engraved from birch plywood. The oversized map was fabricated with several panels of 1.5mm Plywood that we bonded together onsite prior to installation.
